I think this is from `https://statcounter.com/` (?), but that site doesn't load for me at the moment, and there's no readme or description on that (1 star) repo, or its associated account. I can only go from my own experience. I used to have issues with sitemap when using a sitemap plugin. However, I found that using rank math is best all round. I deleted all sitemap from Google, installed Rank Math and used the settings they suggested. I then adding the sitemaps back to GSC. Source: over 1 year ago
