  I just just experienced this. They knew my email address already and the last four digits of my Card. I responded Yes to their text, got called by them and was led through this flow until the password phase. They were very believable. The email is impressive and from sofi.com. This strategy only works if you have enough confidence in your finances to know that if I gave you a card with 100k credit limit, you would never spend more on it than what you have in your bank and has been budgeted for.
