In fact, I liked Reddit so much as a recommendation engine, that I built https://shopbysub.com so folks can browse Amazon product recommendations by subreddit with context and sorting and stuff. e.g. I've been gardening lately and came across a moisture meter on https://shopbysub.com/r/gardening that I wouldn't have otherwise. I created a site (https://shopbysub.com) that kind of does this. You can browse amazon products that have been linked by redditors in comments by subreddit - e.g. https://www.shopbysub.com/flashlight. Source: almost 3 years ago
I did a thing to somewhat help mitigate this problem. I made https://shopbysub.com which groups Amazon products left in reddit comments by subreddit, and makes them sortable by amount of upvotes. So you can go to e.g. https://shopbysub.com/r/BuyItForLife and see all the amazon products more or less recommended by redditors. Source: about 3 years ago
