  • Change letter spacing in a bitmap font
I managed to solve it by generating a bitmap font with the Shoebox. It automatically trims every character in a font thus removing the empty space. This solution is far from the best, but unfortunately I didn't find any alternative for adjusting kerning (individual letter spacing). Source: over 1 year ago
  • how to make sprite sheets?
There is a great free tool called shoebox. It would sort pngs together into one image and even do sheet animations from gifs Saved us alot of time in game development. Maybe it can help you Https://renderhjs.net/shoebox/. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Creating a hand anti-aliased pixel font to use in a Label?
This tip is just what I was looking for! I checked out some .FNT tools and found a nice tool called Shoebox (http://renderhjs.net/shoebox/) which neatly packs your font sprite and seems a bit more user friendly. Now it's working great in Godot, cheers mate. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • What is the one gamemaking tool you use that you wish more people knew about?
Shoebox - a free tool to manipulate and export photos for certain gamedev purposes, like spritesheet packing, bitmap font creation, masking and even ripping textures off of images. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Need help! (Hollow knight mod)
I can't make spritesheets, but I suggest you use this application to make spritesheets for you. I cannot gurantee the quality, but I did use it and it seemed to work well. Http://renderhjs.net/shoebox/. Source: about 2 years ago

  • What kind of animation is this?
There are a bunch of programs that use rigged and meshed 2D images that create these sorts of animations. I have only used “Spline” for game animation http://esotericsoftware.com/. Source: 10 months ago
  • Godot 4.0 beta 16: Initial .NET 7 support
Haven't used it. The system itself might be decent but the editor for it is probably bad. Lots of things in Godot like that. We bought a license to Spine from http://esotericsoftware.com/ It has a godot runtime SDK. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Flexible, extensible way of handling 2D sprites with multiple parts
Something to mine for ideas: http://esotericsoftware.com/. Source: over 1 year ago
  • how can I let users to design their characters?
2D with skin and bone animation could use something like Spine 2D. There is no official runtime for Godot 3.x, but there is one for Godot 4. Source: over 1 year ago
  • What is the term used for transparent 2D sprites(digitally drawn)?
I looked up gameplay of Eastern Exorcist, and seems to me the term you're looking for is (2D) skeletal animation. Basically, you split the character up into various little pieces (head, arms, torso, legs), and then move them about. To achieve different poses, you swap out the parts to suit the situation. There are plenty of tools for this style online (as a random example, Spine), and even some plugins for engines... Source: almost 2 years ago
