You also may need to update RuneLite. The client updates automatically regularly, but the launcher never updates. If you installed RuneLite a long time ago RuneLite's launcher may be too outdated to work with the Jagex launcher. Source: 12 months ago

Other games have a second layer of prestige, but one of the factors for how the second prestige points are calculated or the requirement to do the second layer of prestige is based on how many times it has been done before, so doing it before intended too many times will halt progress, and delaying it longer than expected will result in faster and faster progress (games I can think of are War Clicks, Idle Space...
