You also may need to update RuneLite. The client updates automatically regularly, but the launcher never updates. If you installed RuneLite a long time ago RuneLite's launcher may be too outdated to work with the Jagex launcher. Source: 12 months ago

It is keyboard driven and has quite a hard learning curve (learn vim). Because it's been designed decades ago, some things makes less sense today.
