Just going to chime in with an idea I haven't seen mentioned yet - a temp agency like Robert Half, especially if you have a degree. A recruiter will speak with you, get an idea what marketable skills you have and what sort of work your are interested in, then match you up with their client companies who need temps. For yourself I would recommend looking at Robert Half for an remote job. It can be as simple as being a credit analyst. Robert Half is at roberthalf.com. Beginner listing jobs will list a $/hr payrate while more advanced positions list a salary range. This may be more compliant with your physical health right now. I also have seen in posts and comments on this forum that sometimes taking a some. Source: 12 months ago
Check for facilities positions at places. The work is mostly maintenance like repairs and electrical stuff. You could also talk to a job recruiting firm like Robert Half(http://roberthalf.com). The services are free to applicants (companies pay them to find someone to hire) and they work with you to find suitable positions. I got a pretty good IT job with them. Source: over 2 years ago
If they are W2 or 1099, look at gusto.com, but I would encourage you to speak with a CPA so they can best advise you on your situation. If you do things wrong, it could put you in a lot of legal trouble. Source: over 1 year ago

W2 employee - More complicated to setup but there are lots of great services like Gusto that do pretty much everything for you. Then you just run payroll and taxes are taken out of his check. Source: over 1 year ago
Third - the 1099. If you have a consulting contract, then you don't have to pay taxes for the individual. The consulting contract will clearly state that they are responsible for all taxes, including self-employment taxes. I still use a payroll service (gusto.com in my case, but whatever floats your boat) to pay contractors, that way someone else is taking care of the 1099s and such, which can be a pain in the ass.
