Ride with Via Reviews

Can ride-pooling service Via catch up to Uber and Lyft by being the friendly alternative?
[Photo: courtesy Via]In 2014, New York City became Via’s first test case. To build the company’s proprietary algorithms, Ramot and his team began running routes between the Upper East Side and Midtown in Manhattan, aiming to capture commuters going to and from work. They quickly learned that shared rides bring a host of challenges. One of the most glaring: The fastest route...
Via Rideshare: Get Shared Rides for Less
Via is available 24/7 in its primary markets — N.Y.C., Chicago, and Washington, D.C. — but in cities that simply have partnerships with Via, there are usually limited hours of operation. In these limited markets, Via is usually still available from early morning to late night, so its services are still likely to be available when you need them. However, Via operations are...
Uber, Lyft, Gett, Juno, and Via: Which of these 5 NYC taxi alternatives is right for you?
Bottom line: We use Via all the time, as long as we're not in a big rush to get somewhere. Just prepare to add a few extra minutes to your trip thanks to all the pick-ups. But considering it’ll only cost $2.25 more than the subway (and you can avoid waiting in the hot subway stations this summer), we’re kind of hooked. We’re also wondering when the first Via marriage will...

  • Some Philly schools are losing teachers because of parking woes. City Council says it can’t do much.
They could start a VIA program as well and offer that to teachers for free. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Metro Transit rolls out "micro" rides for North Minneapolis
These systems always employ a private vendor who offers ride sharing software. Via is a primary player in this space. Municipalities put out an RFP and these companies bid, their app is then deployed with the transit providers branding, and then payments are handled by the transit provider. So, these apps/systems function very similar to an Uber or Lyft. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Best options for ride into and out of NYC?
There’s an app called VIA. It’s about half price compared to Uber but same idea. They can pick up people on way but only if it’s a very similar to your route so it doesn’t add too much extra time unlike Uber pool. https://ridewithvia.com. Source: over 1 year ago
  • PSA on mass transit in Detroit (busting some myths)
Flex is a service offered by SMART Bus but the operation is outsourced to a company called Via. Many cities around the U.S. Have been trying out "microtransit" services with varying success. NPR did a story about it recently. It is not that much different than when the QLINE used the company, Transdev, as the operations company. They manage transit systems all over the world. QLINE wasn't happy with their service... Source: over 1 year ago

  • Open source projects for community?
Why doesn't india have more open source projects? I found [Libre taxi][https://libretaxi.org/] which is basically free open source ride sharing similar to uber\ola but saves the cut of company. This could potentially enable the lower class for higher profit margins. For a country that's a big player in software, we sure don't have many open source projects :(. Source: 12 months ago
  • Expropriation of surplus value by capital
Saw this alternative a while back. Haven't tried it, so dunno how good it is: https://libretaxi.org/. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Fuck Doordash. Fuck UberEats. I'm launching my own open-source non-profit food delivery platform.
Have you seen LibreTaxi (https://libretaxi.org/)? You might want to build on top on that. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Has Uber/Ola gotten basically unusable or is it just me ?
There is this app that works using telegram API. It's called libre taxi. https://libretaxi.org/ One advantage with this project is that it is self hosted and federated. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Would anyone like to build a full stack project together?
A project like libretaxi allows drivers to set their own prices and "haggle" with customers. I think it's a turn off for a customer to not know the price beforehand, and nobody appears to use that service. We would have a way that we democratically decide on a price to set and a percentage that the driver gets, giving drivers the ability to make decisions about how the company is run and ways it can benefit the...
