  Protect yourself by first pulling your FICO score (go to MyFico and pull your own score, and you can get a coupon from retailmenot.com) and shop around. You can shop around for rates without a hard pull so you know how much car you can afford for the interest rate you would qualify for with that FICO.   I'm in Canada, too. Lands' End has fast shipping to Canada, and I've bought a lot of quality basics from them.   My two sons and I did a RV trip over xmas break. Flew to Las Vegas, rented an RV and drove to Grand Canyon, South Rim. Stayed for 2 days. Drive to Zion, stayed for 2 days.   I think you should start by going to https://rvshare.com or any similar place, and rent an RV for a week or a month to try this out, even if you just lock your house and camp in your driveway.
