I used to download winrar from rarlab.com but there is another site which is win-rar.com. This question is only for winrar. Don't recommend other archivers in the comments please, Thank you. Source: over 2 years ago
Yesterday I recently factory reset my PC and when I got most of my programs back I was going to download WinRAR from win-rar.com but when I download WinRAR I scan it with VirusTotal and it detects 2 trojans. Is it a false positive or was I using my PC with 2 trojans before? Source: over 2 years ago
Hi, I'm setting up my new pc after a few years and it confuses me that the top result on google search, win-rar.com, serves files that turn out to be different from the ones from rarlab.com even with the same release numbers and file size. Which of these is the actual official website? Some people recommended to get 7zip instead but I prefer WinRAR's friendlier UI. Source: over 2 years ago
The p7zip port of 7-Zip is several releases behind and the project seems to be abandoned. I discovered this when a large archive failed to extract with Engrampa which uses it. It reported a "Headers Error" which is due to a compatibility problem between zip format implementations. 7-Zip has a fix but the port doesn't. But there's a fork on GitHub which is being actively maintained. Check it out. Source: about 2 years ago
I use Engrampa. Which archive format I use depends on the use case. For example, if Windows users are involved, I usually use Rar archives. Under Linux, I usually use tar.xz. Source: about 3 years ago
