  • Students, what features would you like to see on Windows 12?
    1) a scientific calculator with history and variables with a UI similar to https://sourceforge.net/projects/alt1-calculator/ that also can do units like https://qalculate.github.io/ 2) a tiny text chat direct message program that is similarly as easily accessible at Atl1 3) a minimalist dock of as many instances you would like similar to https://punklabs.com/rocketdock, and like where WIN opens the start menu, WIN... • Paint on Windows is getting layers and transparency support
Qalculate is my go-to for cross platform calculator that is useful and is not limited to the most basic +-*/ operations. https://qalculate.github.io/. - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago

  • GNU Units
I personally use Qalculate (https://qalculate.github.io/), specifically their CLI version for this purpose. I'm not sure how well it compares to GNU Units, but it works well enough for my needs; and it's fairly simple using English-like syntax. - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
  • Ask HN: Do you still use a hand held/desktop calculator?
On the terminal, I use `qalc`[1]. It's a nice natural language calculator that does arithmetic, solves quadratic equations/linear systems, does unit conversions and even a bit of calculus. Combine it with a cli graphing tool and you can do pretty cool things. Anything more complicated I'm probably ok with latency, so I open up wolframalpha and enter it there, again, in natural language. [1]... - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago

  • Tried to update and shut down my PC and now I get this. What's the deal?
It comes in either a bootable ISO or an EFI file. I'd recommend putting Ventoy on a flash drive and loading either the EFI file (listed as "Binary Files" on the page) or "Linux ISO w/ Grub" versions from that. This will wipe the flash drive, but you can just drag and drop ISOs or whatever into a folder and boot them without something like Rufus or Etcher. It's quite nice to have on hand either way for things like... Source: 5 months ago
  • Got some questions about system stability
I've been having some weird issues such as Discord restarting itself and browser tabs crashing randomly. Originally I thought I was having some issue with Electron related programs, but the more I Google the more I see "test the ram" so I finally did. For context, my hesitation on testing ram is I haven't had a game crash or act weird once, outside of normal Linux things (Pop!_OS), it's just been browsers and... Source: 5 months ago
