The other - perhaps more important - reason to provide a laptop is data risk management. If the laptop is yours, you can force encryption, backups, and install endpoint security tools, which allow you to remotely wipe it if lost/stolen/fired. I use this app called Alarmy. It’s the only thing that has me get up. To turn off the alarm, you have to complete a “mission”. The best/most reliable mission I’ve been able to use has been the barcode reader. I set the alarm to be disabled by needing to scan a shampoo bottle.
