It's personal preference so I'm not commenting on it. If "file explorer" by your definition is a window with have multiple columns for displaying file hierarchy, file list of current working directory, and file preview, get Pathfinder (https://cocoatech.com/). Its so so so much more than just that. They know everywhere you go and everyone you interact with and what they talk about and search for. It looks like this vice article is based off a Bloomberg article that is based off a placer.ai white paper that I can't read without giving them all of my personal information.
