  • Hey all. Doing (driving) route 500 up in Scotland, late summer 2022. Just wondered if the group had any advice for wild camping this route (Not asking for locations). We’ve been warned of mosquito populations around that time but any other advice for wild camping in Scotland would be appreciated 😃
Watch out for Ticks too OP if you are using a tent or after long walks. Plenty of locations, use the park4night app - Link It’s literally a whole database of decent reviewed wild camping spots! Source: over 2 years ago
  • How frugally can you road trip Centralish Europe?
If you're comfortable with it, you can sleep in your car almost anywhere except for central city areas. It is illegal to do in many countries, but as long as you go to sleep late and leave early, it will be absolutely fine. Just try not to get woken up by police with a fine. A hostel will cost between 10-20 euros a night. If you're fine with sleeping at strangers' places, hospitality networks are fairly big here... Source: over 2 years ago

  • Another failed encounter
One place you're guaranteed to find that is a farming co-op/eco-village. there's many across the US. you'll have to give up on your career temporarily, but you'll have a clear daily purpose -- working the land, or whatever task you get up to; you'll have health (as fresh food and exercise are abundant in these places); and you'll definitely have your fill of community. Maybe a good break, for a month or two? Just... Source: 5 months ago
  • What are some alternative lifestyles to being a traditional wageslave? My spouse wants to just be homeless & busk but I'm looking for a compromise that isn't that

  • Can a foreigner work as a farmer here?
If you are a citizen of another EU/EEA country or the UK, then there'd be no legal issue with you coming to Ireland to do farm work, but those jobs are generally very poorly paid and working conditions (and living conditions, if your employer is providing accommodation) usually aren't the best. If you think it's something you might be interested in anyway, you might want to try something like WWOOF, Workaway, or... Source: 5 months ago
  • What's the most lucrative part of Horticulture? What makes the most money?
Getting the land and putting in the work are the hardest parts. But enthusiasm for horticulture is irreplaceable. Get a few growing seasons under your belt, grow some things you like, maybe try WWOOF'ing (https://wwoof.net/) if there's a farm that strikes your fancy. Taking some classes is always a good idea, too. You'll get there! Source: 5 months ago
