On some phones you can install a ROM which is a completely custom version of Android built by enthusiasts. It can push what the phone is capable of and change a lot of things. Think over clocking for one. This is nowhere near as popular as it was a few years ago but there's still a good hardcore group out there taking advantage. Then again, before trying that (virtualising Windows to virtualise Android), I'd try to run an Android x86 image virtualised directly in your Linux environment, such as BlissOS https://blissos.org/ (also available with Play Store and GMS).
