  • Google Groups ending support for Usenet
Pan works well for me when I'm on a desktop with a GUI. Otherwise, I still use tin. http://pan.rebelbase.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
  • looking for newsrover or similar
Try the good old Pan Newsreader. When you click "Get Headers", you have the choice of the last N days of headers, or just new headers, or All headers, or "Get the latest N Headers", and you can fill in the number. I think "All headers" starts from the oldest, but I could be wrong. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Isp.netscape.com
    > Is there a way to connect (preferable with the ability to post) with it for free? Yep, you can get a free account at https://www.eternal-september.org/ if your ISP doesn't carry newsgroups (note it's for text groups only). Personally, I use Thunderbird as a newsreader (and my ISP still carries most newsgroups), there are also dedicated apps like Pan: http://pan.rebelbase.com/. - Source: Hacker News / about 3 years ago

  • What additional usenet provider would you use?
I've been using usenet for ~10 months and so far have been using newsdemon as my primary provider backed up by a block from usenet.farm. However I've been getting poor completion on ebooks for example so this morning I signed up to eweka using a deal (search r/usenet) and I can't believe how good eweka is. Source: 10 months ago
  • Best news server for 10g speed
Probably the usual suspects: eweka, newshosting, usenet.farm, blocknews, frugal. You may need more than one to achieve those speeds though, not to mention enough I/O to be able to handle it, and local network on point too. Source: about 1 year ago
  • apps that changed your life
Usenet is good for older stuff if its available and for newer stuff because of the fast download speeds that can max my 1gbps fiber but its kinda of expensive and really hard to understand everything at first, you have to pay a news service I use nzbgeek.info then you need at least one usenet provider, I'm using eweka as my primary, bought a one year license for half the price and I have 1TB block in usenet.farm... • Usenet setup advice!!!
A lot of people use more than 1 provider, you use 2, right, usenet.farm and astraweb. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Am I missing anything in my list that I should have?
Thunder Block (I know redundant but was too cheap) $3/500GB Demon Block (Same as above) $2.30/500GB Usenet.farm Block $14.63/1TB Vipernews Block $21.49/2TB Blocknews Block $10/500GB. Source: over 1 year ago
