  I did this last year. If you go to https://dwr.virginia.gov/ you can go and get a 2 week back country primitive camping pass for free. I drove my truck out to the area around Smith lake, found a spot near the river. Pay attention to rules and notes about primitive camping, making fires etc. I did some hiking, camping, fishing and a little hunting. Saw some deer but didn't get a clean shot. I wound up shooting...
