What about opensky-network.org? Their API is free if you are a feeder. I use Node-RED to get the exact information you mention. I haven't thought much about this actually. I wouldn't know how to do something interesting with monitoring/streaming/retraining because as you say, it looks like you would need a proper production setting; that said, there are some interesting open source streaming data sources out there, I recently saw some open live data for flights around the world for example (I think it's this one). Some booking websites allow you to search specifically for hostels. I just took a quick glance, and expedia.com allows it. Booking.com doesn't appear so, but maybe I missed something. Source: 11 months ago
Whatever safe bed you can find at this point. You've left it too late to be picky and it's looking like it's going to be the start of the the busiest, boomiest tourist season here in Italy ever. Expect to have to stay very, very, very far from city centers and transit connections or to pay $400+/night on a place.
