Seems to work under a modular package called "gems", that you can use to pull in the functionality you need. It uses c++ as it's main language, but you can use Lua, python or visual scripting for scripting stuff. I am pretty sure K12.com is a public school, as is connections academy. Connections Academy has a lot of negative reviews and they operate under several different names but are virtually 1 company. They are paid through the district, so not truly homeschool. Are you wanting to homeschool or do online school as they are different. We build our own curriculum using Sonlight.
