The cheapest way is to use OctoPrint. Octoprint itself is free, and although it's often run on a Raspberry Pi, it can be installed on many things, such as an old laptop runing Linux or even Windows, or a small single-board computer. I’d personally recommend Godot, because it’s FOSS, has a really nice way of doing things (in my opinion), and a language that’s similar enough to Go that when I was first learning Go I’d frequently use terms from GDScript!
