In recent years, projects like Vercel's NextJS and Gatsby have garnered acclaim and higher and higher usage numbers. Not only that, but their core concepts of Server Side Rendering (SSR) and Static Site Generation (SSG) have been seen in other projects and frameworks such as Angular Universal, ScullyIO, and NuxtJS. You might want to try https://easyengine.io. You can install it on any unmanaged VPS you can get your hands on, and you can run it locally if you want to do some local development too. It’s basically a turnkey Wordpress stack and comes with some nice features like server side caching (full page caching + object caching - which caches stuff from the database in RAM - both backed by redis which it sets up for you too).
