I have just finished switching from normal VGA to VESA for my OS MaxOS. And although this will be far away in the future, I do hope to not only have a 1080p display but also working on the hardware of my main machine. I'm guessing GP means natively, not in a VM. I've been super grateful for the VM-based method, but I still prefer the native experience like that provided by Crouton[1]. At any rate, you can try Breath, Crouton, Manjaro... Those are three of the distros people have found success with. It all boils down to the specific hardware involved... Which we know nothing about since you kept that to yourself. Source: 11 months ago
