I haven’t gotten to play Distance yet, but its precursor was Nitronic Rush an amazing student project from a few years ago and it is free but I think discontinued now. Distance is a much expanded and commercial release of that concept game. Source: about 3 years ago
Warzone 2100 (Free) is a real time strategy from 1999 that's since been adopted by open source, and thus still gets periodic updates. It has a solid campaign with a fair amount of variety. Starcraft 2 is apparently free to play https://starcraft2.com/en-us/, so you can try that. I've come to dislike RTS games that use units whose main purpose is to collect resources around the map and/or build your buildings, so I never got into Starcraft.
