  • New To Mac
I use dark mode, but there are some apps which are (IMO) just plain ugly in dark, like the calendar and mail. You could use an app like NightOwl. But there is a command for that. It's got two steps, firstly find the app's bundle id, using osascript -e 'id of app "App_Name"'. Then pass this result into: defaults write NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance -bool Yes. • Mac won't switch to dark mode
I had this issue a lot - instead of relying on the auto mode I went ahead and installed NightOwl. Now the theme changes correctly at the appropriate time. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Automatic Dark/Light Mode based on sunset/sunrise?
Sadly, this functionality isn't built-in to Windows and (unlike macOS) there doesn't appear to be any decent third-party utilities to sort this out for you. To date, I've been using an Open-Source offering named Luna. Source: over 2 years ago
  • No "Night Shift" in preferences for my Mac Mini M1?
For changes at exact times, use a third party util like NightOwl. Source: over 2 years ago
  • [macOS 11.4, MBP M1] Been dark for a while outside, but the auto appearance still goes to light mode, but it works correctly on iOS.
I just gave up with the default Mac settings downloaded NightOwl. Night Shift works as normal but NightOwl ensures that dark mode turns on at sundown. Source: almost 3 years ago

  • Is it just me who dislikes the winter update with the change of colors?
Reshade might help with the color tones. I normally use f.lux for Windows, but I don't know how much it might help. Could be worth trying, though. Source: 5 months ago
  • Create a shortcut for even lower phone brightness
This is good advice, but I prefer something that automatically dims and reduces blue light for me. That qay I don't have ro remember. f.lux on Windows and Mac, and Twilight on Android, are what work for me. https://justgetflux.com/ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.urbandroid.... - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
  • Blue-light glasses may not reduce eyestrain from screens, study says
    > I can't put nightmode in Windows too close to 100 percent (i put it between 50-65) because then the contrast is just too bad. I hate windows night mode. As soon as you go above "slight" (can't remember the numbers, I'm not a frequent windows user and don't have one handy to check) it gets a sickly yellow taint. Last I checked (2-3 years ago) macos's wasn't great either, although somewhat serviceable. You may... - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
  • How to sleep in extreme heat
There is evidence that suggests that blue light from screens before bed time can impact your ability to fall sleep. Here are several more resources about this phenomenon. To counter this, there are apps for computers and phones that will change the colors of your screen depending on the time of day. A commonly used free program that does this is f.lux.
