Nextcloud running the News app [1] on your own server, either an old laptop/desktop or a SBC like a Raspberry/Orange/Banana/${fruit} Pi. You'll get total control over whatever you do with the thing, as much 'free' cloud storage as you want and loads of other possible services. It runs fine on a Raspberry Pi 4 or one of the equivalent boards from other manufacturers. Source: I've been running this before the... - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
NC News was my first RSS aggregator, back when I was doubing whether I might need something like this at all - now I can't imagine not having one. Source: over 1 year ago
Cross-platform and with an app for android would be Nextcloud News. (https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/news) - But obviously you'd be needing a nextcloud first. Source: almost 2 years ago
Ah, the blessings of the Google-free Android experience get proven once again by this counterexample of Google - or rather those working for Google who are in control these feeds - pushing their agenda onto unsuspecting (...?) victims. There's a bunch of replacements. I like https://newsblur.com but there are 4-6 large-ish similar sites. That said, partially what people miss is the relative cultural hegemony of Google Reader. It was RSS front-and-center, prominently featured on websites, supported by the biggest company in tech, with all the users there and able to take advantage of the (sparse) social features. - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
Https://newsblur.com/ I think this might be pretty close to what you're looking for. It's an RSS feed reader with a platform for discussions. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
Currently I'm on Newsblur. But it's really convoluted to Self host - to my "shame" I use their cloud hosted app with premium. It's (over)laden with features that I actually use and cheaper than for example Feedly. Source: 12 months ago
I start every day with RSS subscriptions using NewsBlur (https://newsblur.com) and Reeder (https://reederapp.com). I've also set up a page so other people can see my subscriptions / what I'm reading: https://sources.werd.io. - Source: Hacker News / 12 months ago
