Newsblur and RSS: A Quick Tutorial

Social recommendations and mentions

We have tracked the following product recommendations or mentions on various public social media platforms and blogs. They can help you see what people think about NewsBlur and what they use it for.
  • After more than 20 years, I published my first dirty project
I also use it for its Popular Bookmarks - I subscribed to its RSS feed in NewsBlur and always have something interesting to read when my other feeds are Empty (they rarely are). - Source: dev.to / 6 months ago
  • Killed by Google
There's a bunch of replacements. I like https://newsblur.com but there are 4-6 large-ish similar sites. That said, partially what people miss is the relative cultural hegemony of Google Reader. It was RSS front-and-center, prominently featured on websites, supported by the biggest company in tech, with all the users there and able to take advantage of the (sparse) social features. - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
  • Ask HN: Alternatives to Reddit
Https://newsblur.com/ I think this might be pretty close to what you're looking for. It's an RSS feed reader with a platform for discussions. - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
  • With Reddit sunsetting, I'm looking back to RSS. What are the best current tools?
Currently I'm on Newsblur. But it's really convoluted to Self host - to my "shame" I use their cloud hosted app with premium. It's (over)laden with features that I actually use and cheaper than for example Feedly. Source: 11 months ago
  • Ask HN: What other news feeds do you read besides Hacker News?
I start every day with RSS subscriptions using NewsBlur (https://newsblur.com) and Reeder (https://reederapp.com). I've also set up a page so other people can see my subscriptions / what I'm reading: https://sources.werd.io. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
  • Elmo bans Block the Blue
Dude, check out Newsblur. That's where I migrated to when Google Reader was taken behind the barn by Google. It's great, and I am still paying only $1/month as I have since I signed up. Source: 12 months ago
  • The year of the RSS reader (really)
NewsBlur - I'm on a paid plan since I'm a packrat with almost 700 feeds. It is a pretty busy interface but has tons of functionality. Their mobile app is also pretty good. https://newsblur.com/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Ooh.directory
It sure didn't help, but I agree that Google Reader's death didn't kill blogs themselves; the decline has been pretty steady (Reader was killed in 2013): https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&geo=US&q=rss,blog I also agree that RSS is still worth it. I am a happy subscriber to Newsblur: https://newsblur.com/ Indeed, the mess that is Twitter is giving me hope that we'll see a comeback of people... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Looking for a replacement to Feedly
Almost everyone here recommends Inoreader, which is understandable: it's the most powerful RSS reader. I respect Inoreader, but I prefer ten times the UX of Newsblur, which is open source and feautured packed if you are a power user (but you can use it as a normal RSS reader). Source: over 1 year ago
  • A message about Stadia and our long term streaming strategy
Https://newsblur.com/ is what I use for years. Incredibly good and pretty much in the vein of the old Google Reader. Source: over 1 year ago
  • What discontinued thing do you really want brought back?
I bounced around between a few other RSS readers after Google Reader was shut down, and eventually stuck to NewsBlur. I still use it. The biggest thing that sets it apart for me is that you can have it highlight or hide stories based on keywords. Source: over 1 year ago
  • It'll be extremely useful if Google Photos app had a calendar view option, to quickly check where I was on a particular date. I know I can search for the date, but this gives a much better and user friendly overview. (screenshot from Telegram)
Omg they built their own chat system lolololololol. They're so smart, but where is the wisdom? Thanks for the link! This development concept makes a lot of sad sense. (RIP google reader, long live Newsblur). Source: over 1 year ago
  • Carbon - an experimental C++ successor language
Https://newsblur.com/ comes pretty close for me though. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Goodbye, Feedly
I tried it when they started, it was a sluggish mess that also did not use the browser cache correctly. Maybe I noticed because I had thousands of RSS feeds, I dunno. Granted, that was a decade ago so I hope they improved it since. I stick to https://newsblur.com/. It has it's quirks but is way, way faster (two days ago a redesign came out that makes it so fast I feel like I'm using the old Google Reader again). - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • Thunderbird 102 Released: A Serious Upgrade to Your Communication
It's about two thirds of the way down the page of https://newsblur.com/ (when you're not logged in). Paid account is US$36/year. You can sign up with a free try-before-you-buy account to give it a go first, though. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • Ask HN: Do You Use RSS?
Every day, thanks to https://newsblur.com. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • Ask HN: What are you using for a RSS Reader?
Https://newsblur.com It's an online service. It has features to extract the whole story from the source website, and to automatically filter feed items according to title, author, tags etc. There are android and iOS apps available; at least the Android one is opensource. One can self-host it, but at $36/year it's almost worth it paying the author to avoid the hassle. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • Is Newsblur.com being blocked?
Hi, access to newsblur.com has been restored. Thank you for your patience! Source: about 2 years ago
  • Hacker News top posts: Jun 24, 2021
Hacker deleted all of NewsBlur’s Mongo data and is now holding the data hostage\ (274 comments). Source: almost 3 years ago
  • News RSS
You can use newsblur.com with some free features and for all the features there is the premium version. Source: almost 3 years ago

Hello, RSS
I looked at what RSS readers were popular by checking out my website analytics. I’ve always seen Feedly and Newsblur in there as referrers, but have also started to see Inoreader as well. Feedly has a robust offering, and it was a product I used a bit many years ago. It has a higher price point than some other services but in the end I just didn’t like the design. It felt busy. Like another inbox I had to manage...
