I took a look at movingpermits.com. Their service fee of $150 is per container per day. If you are sure that it's only going to be one day, it would be well worth it to avoid dealing with the city. Note that this doesn't include barricades ($85). However I doubt that PODS would pick it up the same day you dropped it off. Source: almost 2 years ago
So really, you should have or easily be able to obtain everything you need. If you're still 100% unsure, most U-Haul locations can do a "pre-tow inspection for you" to let you know for sure. If you use the location finder on uhaul.com, click on a location, and under features it should say "Free towing inspection" - all corporate locations and many dealers (independently owned) offer this.
