  Also, I heard from my friend, that his DAC is a Pangolin FB3. If you have a licence to the Beyond software, then you can use the modulaser app to interface with MIDI. It sounds like it's exactly what I need, and is only $100 (free trial). It was a bummer when I heard that the Beyond license is $700. I read that modulaser isn't compatible with the cheaper Pangolin software that my friend uses, because it doesn't... Source: over 2 years ago

• Laser music! Here the laser is modulated by an audio source, and then shone onto a solar panel to convert back to an electrical (audio) signal and you can hear the original input into the laser!

  The cyclops is specifically for the modular domain, but it looks like there are other laser DAC's which might do something similar.   I haven't tried EZ Drummer yet, but I might. I'm a computer nerd, so I've put together a laptop with Ubuntu Studio, and I'm in the process of getting Jack configured to reduce the Midi latency. I want to have ultimate control over everything, and may eventually write some custom plug-ins once I have it all set up to work with something like Ardour or Hydrogen. (Open-source FTW.).   Some trackers come with their own sample packs, like the open source Hydrogen drum machine, or commercial Renoise tracker, so you can play around with those. Source: over 1 year ago
