  • 5 easy tips to improve your personal website performance
I’m not sure why we haven’t solved the font file format problem yet. And because the best network request is the one that’s never made, why not scrap the custom fonts altogether and just use system fonts? You may fret that your website might look different on MacOS, Linux, and Windows, but maybe that’s the fun of it. And system fonts are no longer limited to just Times New Roman and Arial. • How to choose colors ?
For fonts: I rely on fonts that visitors already have on their machine, to make the app as fast to load as possible. For this I use Modern Font Stacks. Source: 12 months ago
  • Mac and windows default fonts
I like https://modernfontstacks.com/ – since fonts differ wildly from Windows to Mac to Android to Linux and what-not. It's a neat quick way to go for css font stacks where you aim at, say, System UI, Monospace, Rounded Sans, Handwritten or Slab Serif or whatever you're looking for and you get the best typeface chosen without any external fonts loading on any platform. • Stop Using Custom Web Fonts
From the front page: https://modernfontstacks.com/ has aa bunch of nice font stacks that should work on most platforms. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Modern Font Stacks
Https://github.com/system-fonts/modern-font-stacks. —⁂— System UI: risky, it’s a trap, there’s basically no legitimate scenario for these semantics on the public web. See https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/3658. (b) Courier New is unreasonably thin. Its 400 is more like a 250, and painful to read in many common configurations. Just never use it. (c) Cutive Mono apparently copied Courier New’s... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago

  • Hi guys i made a personal portfolio website. How would y'all rate it
Find a more pleasing set of colors to work with. The light gray font against a white background on your landing page is very difficult to read. If you need help finding colors that work well together try looking at Adobe's Color page, its REALLY useful: https://color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel. Source: 6 months ago
  • How do you pick paint colors that go well together, that aren't just different shades
I often use tools like this interactive adobe color wheel when oil painting or doing graphic design. It lets you pick a specific color, and then get analogous, complimentary, split complimentary, or other groups of colors Is there something similar that can be used for paint colors from specific brands? • New to digital art, any advice?
Also, the colors are a bit bright and (in my personal opinion, don't know your character) don't match well. There are plenty of sites that can give pretty decent palettes if you don't have anything specific in mind, and can filter for specific colors if you're in, say, a green mood. Adobe Color and Coolors are the ones I use most often. Source: 6 months ago
  • Color Appearance and the End of Hering’s Opponent-Colors Theory
    > I'd love to code up a machine learning project that showed the user many color combinations. I teach painting in an art school. The huge problem with almost all pallet choosing apps (e.g. Adobe's https://color.adobe.com/) is that they produce swatches: a small collection of discreet color values (e.g. red, green and yellow). These would present as peaks in a hue histogram. These swatches would be great for... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
  • I suck at choosing color I have watched video on color theory and i can't find the right combination. any suggestion
Once you chose a principal color for your project, simply use one of all color harmony rules that exist to find the other colors. Check this color harmony finder from Adobe. Source: 12 months ago
