MapTiler Reviews

Farewell, Google Maps
Mapbox has more resources to its disposal - 400 employees according to LinkedIn, compared to MapTiler's 7 team members - thanks to Softbank's $164m investment. On the other hand, having acquired that much capital, the company is branching out in several directions (autonomous driving, VR...) which for a user dependent on its maps service might be somehow concerning....

MapTiler mentions (3)

  • I've made a geocoder, written in golang, that runs in the browser.
Map: Maptiler & Maplibre are responsible for the beautiful map that you see. I did want to create my own headless tiler, but that seems like an even bigger project on its own. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Maplibre.org Open Maps SDKs for web and mobile: community driven Mapbox GL fork
A few things: - A data source for vector tiles; there's a lot of options: https://stadiamaps.com (my company), https://maptiler.com/ & https://jawg.io (other core contributing companies), among others. - A style that matches. I'm not aware of an open source style that closely mirrors OSM's style using MapLibre GL Styles (also forked from Mapbox). • Is this a sunken boat? Are there more like it in the canals? I haven't found another.
It only shows up on google maps and google earth. Not on Apple Maps, Zoom.earth, satellites.pro or maptiler.com. Source: about 3 years ago

Transportr mentions (6)

  • Google Maps has become an eyesore
The Transportr app[0], which is Free Software and even on F-Droid, shows public transit directions for a number of cities around the world. There is now a standardized format for transit routing and timetables, and transit authorities freely share it, so Google has no especial monopoly in that regard. • Is there any better website than the official SBB one to search through timetables?
Only know about the https://transportr.app/ because it's foss. Other than that maybe the neighour country ones works if you're at a border lol. Source: 11 months ago
  • Any alternative to Google maps?
Probably Transportr? It is not a map application, but it finds how to get from A to B with the public transportation. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Is there any app for public transport? Where you can set up you destination and it tells you what you have to take to get there.
If you don't want to use Google Maps, I can recommend Transportr. It is ad-free and open source! Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Organic Maps - New promising alternative to Google Maps is now in beta for Android and iOS
There is also this app, it's not worldwide really but it's something: https://transportr.app/. Source: almost 3 years ago
