• Looking for a piece of software that would help me in writing a book. I haven't written much so I have no expectations. I found some fancy, full-featured app for Mac that costs $50, was wondering if there was anything FOSS with fewer features.

  Looks like you want something that integrates well with your workflow. The closest to your description seems to be Manuskript although I haven't used it. But your requirement of "keeping notes and frameworks and linking back and forth" should be possible by stitching together existing Linux tools using a syntax like markdown or asciidoc so that you can use any text editor to write your story and use external tools...   Your book is not a movie and its not complete so how are you going to finish it. This is where your psyche matters and why you cant write. The first draft is telling and needs a lot of revising but you cant do that if theirs someone interjecting in your head calling you a kid.
