I did also briefly try https://heluna.com/ as it has a pricing modal that works for my use case and it has a nicer UI than mxguarddog. However I wasn't impressed that Heluna doesn't allow for delivering email on a non standard port to my mail server and they don't specify the source IPs they use to deliver mail to me so I can lock down my perimeter firewall to just those IPs. We currently have the Matrix protocol, with client applications such as Element supporting it. We also have XMPP as another option. Generally more modern than IRC, these platforms are primarily developed as FOSS software. This makes it less likely for developers to impact their users negatively.
