Honestly, you're probably best off just reading LWN: https://lwn.net/. They publish articles on bleeding-edge features of the kernel, often before they're even merged. The editors are highly technical, and excellent writers, who are able to explain technical concepts in a way that's often clearer than what you'll read in a textbook anyways. I don’t think comments make a story more visible on HN, it’s not like https://tildes.net/ My belief actually is that visibility of posts is suppressed if they get, say, 20 comments and already have 50 votes.
