It depends. There's a lot of people on/around IRC who really like it (see libera and all the other networks), and yeah there definitely are people spinning up new smaller networks. This is built using WTFUtil and runs on a dedicated raspberry pi that I have hooked up to a spare monitor on my desk. The "Network" and "Services" section use a custom bash script that I hacked together in a couple hours, and the "SkyLab" banner is my homelab's MOTD, but everything else is just using the built-in WTFUtil plugins.
