I've had my library card in the Key Ring app for years and had the aforementioned issue with needing to turn the brightness way up. FYI if your phone can't read QR codes, there's websites where you can upload a photo/screenshot of a QR code (for example: https://zxing.org/w/decode.jspx). There's also other similar websites where you can just hold up the QR code to your computer's webcam, rather than having to upload a file, but just be careful with site permissions!
