  • Photobox – Free Open Source Google Photos Clone
Https://immich.app/ has built in auto-detection and tagging. I am surprised by the over-engineered comment. Object auto-detection is kind of an advanced feature and I would expect a lot of extra infra required for it. Immich hides it because they just publish docker containers for you but I imagine it would feel more complex if you were to look at the internals. - Source: Hacker News / 20 days ago
  • Ask HN: Alternatives to Google Photos
I setup Immich in a few minutes with an old PC running FreeNAS: https://immich.app/ Their Android/iOS Flutter app needs some polishing, but overall it's very usable and very similar to Google Photos. - Source: Hacker News / 24 days ago
  • Happy 20th Anniversary, Gmail. I'm Sorry I'm Leaving You
It really is hard to leave Gmail when all of your data has been conveniently stored therein. This is one of Google's retention strategies and it is indeed brilliant. That said, there's a vast number of self-hosted alternatives like Stalwart Mail (email) [1], Immich (images) [2], NextCloud (Google Docs) [3], etc. [1] https://stalwa.rt [2] https://immich.app [3] https://nextcloud.com/. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
  • I accidentally built a meme search engine
Last year we added CLIP-based image search to https://immich.app/ and even though I have a pretty good understanding of how it works, it still blows my mind damn near every day. It's the closest thing to magic I've ever seen. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago

  • Which synchronization tool are you using together with the pCloud Crypto Folder?
FreeFileSync messed up my pCloud database a couple times at first (causing disappearing files in the Crypto Folder, mirroring of the same files over and over again). Pcloud support provided an easy way to fix the database. To fix the root cause, one needs to exclude FreeFileSync's temporary files from the backup: pCloud Drive > Settings > Backup/Sync Exclusions, exclude sync.ffs_lock and *.ffs_tmp. Source: 6 months ago
  • Why are file backups so slow on Windows 11?
As per Apprehensive_Arm_754 answer below, https://freefilesync.org is the solution to my particular problem, since it allows all kind of simple rules and logic to apply, so I can make sure that the copy only happens in one direction, and only ever by file date etc. Much appreciated. • Is it possible to sync Calibre configuration between Mac and Windows continuously?
It was me, I'd probably play around with setting up shared folders of preferences and plug-ins and whatnot on something like dropbox or Google Drive. There are various folder sinking tools on both platforms such as free file sync on Windows. Since they are two completely different platforms, I don't know how interchangeable some of the preferences or plugins would be. I haven't used a Mac in a 100 years. Source: 7 months ago
