  • Can SGI’s Enthusiast Community Bring IRIX Back to Life?
People are still actively working on Illumos. The last change was yesterday morning. * https://illumos.org People are still actively working on MirBSD. There's a CVS commit account that can be followed on the FediVerse. * http://www.mirbsd.org It's DragonFly BSD, not Dragon BSD, and the irony of that is that you missed FreeBSD, which is of course still going. * https://dragonflybsd.org * https://freebsd.org As... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • Linux distributions' relative popularity over time (by Distrowatch hits)
Its successor is still out there: Illumos. Though it seems to be mainly focused on backwards compatibility for existing custom applications as it still enforces things like an 8 character username limit. Source: about 1 year ago
  • There are literally no reasons to choose an iPhone over an Android smartphone
By contrast, if you replaced the usage share of Windows with that FreeBSD you and that of macOS with, say, illumos, I would care not one bit, because this wouldn't threaten my rights. FreeBSD respects user freedom, and so does illumos. Source: over 1 year ago
  • OSes with native/root ZFS besides FreeBSD and Proxmox?
All the Solaris family like illumos and openindiana. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Solaris 11.4 free for non-production personal use
Why? There is already an active open source fork of Solaris with better licensing terms than what Oracle offers - Illumos / OmniOS - https://illumos.org/ . - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago

  • IMG2VDU and a little something for someone that also likes DOS...
Now on to DOS! At the homepage of the same website, I have a list of recommended software a certain DOS enthusiast may find interesting. I also have an ANSI-like desktop environment called "PsychDOS" at https://psychoslinux.gitlab.io that is rather large in size but worst case, you can "gut-it-out" or just play around with it in DOSBox. • Turning a 2008 Netbook into a Retro Gaming Machine
PsychOS (https://psychoslinux.gitlab.io) was mostly developed on an Acer Aspire One ZG5 (AOA150), just like the one in the video but with 1GB of RAM and I think it has 256MB of VRAM. The reason I am mentioning it is because I also pack it with emulators and makes use of DOSBox to run software from the programs menu, as well as includes a program I made called RetroGrab to easily add more; or worse case, just visit... • PsychDOS now has a QCOW2 download option
Just to recap, PsychDOS is an ANSI-like, but clickable, desktop environment for DOS that I released a while back in which I had two options, one for installing onto DOSBox, FreeDOS, MS-DOS, etc. Via a ZIP and another option for running an IMG (pre-configured FreeDOS) in a virtual machine emulator called QEMU so as to have working Internet. However, it recently dawned on me that most people are probably using... Source: over 2 years ago
  • Easier to use Linux alternatives website I'm making
I'm sort of a lazy ass too so I use Imagemagick for everything in the terminal. If you check PsychOS they have a huge collection of individual tools that can perform some advanced editing features like deepfake ai stuff. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Do i386 packages run on an i486 machine?
Do i386 packages run on an i486 machine or is using "i386" just a generic naming kind of thing? I've been trying to figure out ways to create an i486 version of PsychOS (https://psychoslinux.gitlab.io) and Knoppix 7.2.0 may be a solution but would adding a bunch of i386 packages actually work or break things? Plus I need to know before I end up putting my foot in my mouth any further if I ever go on a luddite... Source: about 3 years ago
