  Custom template icons are not really possible. The icons are actually a graphical font, not images like .png, and this font is modified by reMarkable and embedded within the Xochitl binary. It is technically possible to replace it, but you would have to ensure its new length is fewer than its original bytes.   Text heavy images.. Are quite text heavy 😅. Have you considered using a minimal graphic on each image to sort of depict the story/emotion of the post. It might help break up the feed also.
