  Custom template icons are not really possible. The icons are actually a graphical font, not images like .png, and this font is modified by reMarkable and embedded within the Xochitl binary. It is technically possible to replace it, but you would have to ensure its new length is fewer than its original bytes.   Which effect? The cracked effect? If so, it would depend on if you already have an existing cracked shape (ideally a solid single color). But I would assume you probably don't, in which case, I would recommend using a layer mask and some free brushes.
