  Homeadvisor.com will let you describe the work you want to do and then contractors will respond. I've had decent luck with this for the smaller, specific jobs. Just be prepared, they often start calling you IMMEDIATELY, so don't submit the request unless you're prepared to spend the next 30 minutes or so talking to the contracting companies.   Protect yourself by first pulling your FICO score (go to MyFico and pull your own score, and you can get a coupon from retailmenot.com) and shop around. You can shop around for rates without a hard pull so you know how much car you can afford for the interest rate you would qualify for with that FICO.   I'm in Canada, too. Lands' End has fast shipping to Canada, and I've bought a lot of quality basics from them.
