  • Free version control for game development handling large projects??
Self hosted Gitlab instance is an option. The only cost is hosting (personally I am using hetzner.com CPX31 instance, 16€ for 160GB a month but you can add 1TB volume for 45€ a month if you need more space). Just keep in mind that Gitlab needs about 8GB RAM to work correctly (it crashes on 2 and is only kinda stable on 4). You can also use an older computer or a NAS if you prefer to go that route. I went ahead and purchased the domain dnsfun.dev from my registrar for 19.99€, and I purchased a VPS from my cloud provider for about 4.50€ per month. I then logged in to that VPS and ran something like this:. - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago
  • We reduced our annual server costs by 80% by moving away from AWS
We've just finished moving servers from AWS to https://hetzner.com - and saved 10X with servers of double the capability. A great experience so far. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago

  • Which service to host a Discord bot?
I've read that article, but I'm thinking there are other better (and most importantly cheaper) ways of doing that, such as using App Engine (given that you have to mitigate the maximum request timeout and to make sure there are constantly exactly 1 instance running). Source: about 1 year ago
