  • Gergely Orosz: on the risk of Google shutting down GCP
From what I've heard, the biggest selling point of GCP is its simplicity and easier development experience. Other than that, it's mostly inferior to AWS or even MS Azure. AWS is designed to be very flexible and configurable (example: look at IAM). The tradeof is the complexity and amount of work required to set up even the most frequently used services (such as ECS Fargate or Lambda). That being said, if somebody... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
  • Most obscure AWS service you've used
Hello, you could also have a look at https://stacktape.com. (I'm a founder) . It offers a very simple deployment experience for your apps (so that any developer can deploy his/her app on their own). It's basically as simple as a PaaS platform, yet offers the full power and flexibility of AWS. Source: 11 months ago
  • Cloud, Why So Difficult?
(Please take my opinion with a grain of salt, as I might be biased - I'm a founder at a startup that solves a very similar problem). The cloud (and by "cloud" I mostly mean AWS) in general is indeed insanely complex. Not only is it complex and hard to use for dedicated and trained DevOps/Cloud experts, it's even more overwhelming for developers wanting to just deploy their simple apps. This statement is in my... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
  • How to host a dynamic node.js website for as cheap as possible
Yeah, I second this. You can also use a tool like Stacktape - for use cases like this, it is completely free(full disclosure I am developer there). You can easily deploy into your AWS account and leverage Free Tier. It could probably even simplify other parts of your setup such as S3 hosting. Source: 12 months ago
  • Ask HN: What tech is under the radar with all attention on ChatGPT etc.
I agree with some of the points you've mentioned, but I also think that there definitely are great use-cases for AWS Lambda, and that they are (especially when using a good deployment tool) a great option for many different types of applications. The biggest problem is that the computing model, or the architecture that is commonly required for this sort of apps (event-driven and asynchronous) is hard to develop,... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
