You might have missed the valuation graph from gurufocus.com. It represents historical p/e, p/b, p/s and future estimates. In general though for me personal at least I'm more interested in the quality of a company vs the valuation. It always fluctuates and if a great company is over valued I put it on a watch list. Another important parameter to observe is the overall market valuation. As with individual stocks, the overall market can be measured with P/E ratio and P/S ratio. But just like with cyclical companies, the whole economy is cyclical. During recessions, profit margins are low and earnings are depressed. P/E ratio gives a false indication of the market valuation. I am trying to identify companies that, as Warren Buffet advised, have " ... Strong histories of profitability and with a dominant business franchise".
