  Conventions exist but they're mostly crap. Along the KISS principle, boxed elements with connecting nodes are the best (most universally understood). In mathematical terms, this is an 'undirected graph', a 'directed graph' is the same but with directionality on the links between nodes.   No, it's taking a screenshot of the browser's content, then adding padding to the surrounding image, and letting you pick a colour for it. Screenshot Software like Cleanshot X and Xnapper have this feature built in, either as a default or as a customisable setting.They're basically making it unnecessary to use a third-party screenshot tool to achieve the same effect.
