  • Home Assistant 2023.11
We are making Gladys Assistant ( https://gladysassistant.com/ ), an open-source smart home software. It's less "techy" than HA (no YAML files, no CLI), and UI first. We have way less integrations for now, but are working hard on it. Don't hesitate to try it and make us some feedback. - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago

Link dump of assistants I want to check out, sadly with a noticeable home-automation slant: Leon, github readme, self-hosted server Susi.ai, github AI-centric approach to an app/voice/text assistant Mycroft AI more AI. Dedicated hardware planned. Jasper voice-centric assistant Rhasspy, forum offline assistant services Home Assistant OpenHAB home automation integrator Gladys home assistant. • I spy: are smart doorbells creating a global surveillance network?
Lots of open source projects will do that for you actually. I'm using Gladys for that, works very well, but requires a bit of tech skills to set up. Source: almost 3 years ago

  • Has anyone employed cameras like Wyze to monitor their aging parents for falls, etc?
I don't like the idea of cameras in the house, just for general privacy and hacking. I have not tried it yet, but I keep seeing ads for minut.com, and their sensor looks interesting. The next step I will probably take would be rolling my own system with Home Assistant and motion detectors throughout the house with the idea being if they are home (alarm is off or on night mode) we get alerts for lack of motion...
