I ended up using the free tier of fruux.com (CalDAV service) to sync tasks to iOS. Everything looked good in fruux but was off by +1 days in iOS, not sure why but it was an easy fix. Source: over 1 year ago
Your original question was about how important it is to encrypt contacts and I think it depends. If you just want to keep your data out of Google's data collection hands, then there are other options to store/sync contacts and calendar data (but most are not E2EE). We use https://tidycal.com/ because you get a lifetime deal when you buy it and you can sync your calendar with it, so if you or your partners are already booked, it will not allow someone to book during that timeslot. Source: over 1 year ago
