I use FreeTube also. This is what I am using on my Mac. They have the app for Windows, MacOSx64, and various Linux OSs. No app for iOSs but maybe if we support him he may want to go further. On my Android tablet and phone I am using Grayjay, which also is another alternative. Source: 5 months ago

Fire can use alternative Youtube apps like NewPipe, SkyTube, or WebTube -- I've used all 3 on my HD8. An A7 like /u/eddyso1024 suggests is a nicer tablet, but the Fire is cheaper so it depends on whether price might be more important. Note: cheaper thus lower performance so if suddenly she wants to play a more than medium performance game then having a Fire might be a problem. Source: over 2 years ago
