I just use a free desktop client called Freetube instead ( https://freetubeapp.io ). Don't even have to login or create a profile, and there's a ton of UI customization options built in. Voila -- no more Google shenanigans. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago

I use FreeTube also. This is what I am using on my Mac. They have the app for Windows, MacOSx64, and various Linux OSs. No app for iOSs but maybe if we support him he may want to go further. On my Android tablet and phone I am using Grayjay, which also is another alternative. Source: 6 months ago
[FreeTube](https://freetubeapp.io/) \- Unlike the next 3, this will require a download, however it has a UI that looks closest to Youtube, downloads, 1080p and more! And is available on Linux as well. Source: 7 months ago
Definitely don’t use any of those screen recording apps - that’s just brute forcing it, you’re reencoding the content and losing a ton of video and audio quality. Any embedded video online (unless is uses DRM, which is not this case) can be extracted and downloaded in original quality. If you’re on a Mac, I strongly recommend using Downie, it’s a great piece of software. https://software.charliemonroe.net/downie/... Source: 11 months ago

Though it’s for downloading videos and not screen capping DRM videos, I can’t recommend Downie enough. Source: 12 months ago

If that sentence sounds confusing then you might want to check out some wrapper apps that are much easier to use. Downie is a paid option, but a lot of people seem to like it. There are other options, but they all use youtube dl internally and function the same. Source: about 1 year ago
