  If possible, shop these articles around and see if you can get someone to publish them. Those are going to be what you use as a portfolio, which is going to be way more important than a resume. No one cares where a writer went to school or prison, they only care that you can write. • I don’t know what I’m doing

  I work full-time as a freelance writer. My best piece of advice is to figure out your niche (health, finance, tech, lifestyle etc...) and approach a few brand name blogs or publications and ask if you can write an article for them for free to publish on their site.
