Blockpad is spreadsheet software re-imagined for engineering calculations. It enables engineers to create professional calculation deliverables in an intuitive and familiar way.
The primary interface feels like a traditional word processor, but pressing the equals sign opens up a formula like in a spreadsheet. This formula is then calculated and presented in clear math notation so that the math is readable and not hidden behind a cell. Also like a spreadsheet, these formulas update whenever numbers change.
The formulas also employ many engineering friendly features: - units intelligence - variable names - matrix math - custom functions
The documents themselves are more than just word processors, and include tools that make engineering calculations easier: - spreadsheet-style tables - actual spreadsheets - point snap drawings - solver sections
Also, the various parts of a document can all connect together using spreadsheet-style formulas and references, so that a whole document can update when the numbers change.
Because Blockpad feels like the office and calculation tools you already know, the learning curve can be pretty short. The math is just like spreadsheet math, and the functions are the same too. So it's easy to get started and creating calculation documents you're proud to share.

My go-to recommendation for an RPN calculator is Free42 (https://thomasokken.com/free42/). It's available for Android, IOS, Mac, Windows, Linux. So you can use the same calculator everywhere. It emulates the real HP-42S calculator very closely, so if you happen to own a real HP-42S, you can switch back and forth without friction. If you don't want to pay the extortion prices for a used HP-42S on eBay, you can pick... Source: 5 months ago
HP15C is amazing but so is the HP42 and HP35S, with the 42 in particular considered by some people to be the best scientific calculator ever made. I have an HP35S which is great. I also have a swiss micros DM42[1] which is an absolutely fantastic calculator based on the Free42[2] opensource emulator. It's much more powerful than the HP42 while remaining 100% compatible. The only downside is the keys are quite a... - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
$275, swissmicros, SwissMicros DM42 w/ case. This is the best, most accurate dedicated handheld calculator on the market hands down. Runs Free42, which is an enhanced HP 42S calculator simulator app written by Thomas Okken. Paid retail bc early models had issues and I’ve been a good little boy and deserve a treat. Market is $150-200. Source: about 1 year ago
But then I found it was hard going from RPN to the “normal” way my iPhone calculator works. Now I have the Free42 app. No more confusion. https://thomasokken.com/free42/. Source: over 1 year ago
Have you seen Free42, "...a re-implementation of the HP-42S Scientific Programmable Calculator and HP-82240 Printer?" [0] It is available for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux. (At one point there was even a version available on Windows Phone 8.) Perhaps it checks your boxes of good RPN calculator, available on all platforms. I don't know how much an HP-42S feels like a 41C. In any event, thank you for ralc.... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago

I work at Blockpad, and we have a lot of structural engineering customers that love it. It's sort of like Mathcad+Excel, inside of Word. Source: over 1 year ago
For engineers Blockpad (http://blockpad.net) is making a good case for itself as an Excel replacement. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
